Frequently Asked Questions

Ordering/Custom

How long does it take to create a Rosey West engagement ring or piece of fine jewelry?

Each Rosey West engagement ring and fine jewelry piece is made-to-order locally in our New York City studio, and can be customized down to the smallest detail.  We’re committed to the craftsmanship of fine jewelry, taking 2-4 weeks to complete each individual piece by hand with precision and artistry.

If you have a specific ready-by-date in mind, please contact us to discuss expedited services.

What is the process of ordering an engagement ring or piece of fine jewelry online?

In a time where you can buy almost anything online, fine jewelry designers (like ourselves) are looking to translate the high touch, in-store experience to the convenience of online shopping.

Even with hours of personal research, you may still find that talking it through with an expert will elevate some of the pressure and give a better sense of empowerment before making a final decision.  At Rosey West, we can arrange a one-on-one phone consultation with a personal jewelry concierge to answer any questions you may have along the way.

How do I determine my ring size?

For accuracy and precision in determining your ring size, we recommend visiting a local jeweler and getting properly sized.   To find a local jeweler please visit Jewelers of America for a directory of nationally recognized and accredited local jewelers

  • If the proposal is a surprise, we recommend relying on the confidence of a close friend of your significant other to find out hers/his ring size.

  • Still unsure?  Not to worry -- we can always resize after the proposal for an additional fee of $75 for engagement rings, and $50 for wedding bands. For additional support you can always contact us directly.

Can I use my heirloom or antique diamond or gemstone in a Rosey West setting?

Yes, we love working with heirloom and antique gemstones, but we first need to ensure that the stone is suitable to work with.  We ask that clients provide a specific set of details to determine how a gemstone can be set.

  • Please share photographs and as much information on the gemstone as possible – including carat weight, size, millimeter dimension and GIA or other certifications if available.

  • If you would like your finished piece insured, please have your gemstone(s) appraised prior to setting up an appointment to determine the value.  Please send details directly to our design team.

How frequently does Rosey West receive new diamonds or sapphires?

We work with several vendors across North America that have a rotating selection of responsibly sourced, conflict-free unique diamonds and sapphires.  If you’re looking for a unique cut or colored gemstone, please contact us directly for a curated selection that suits your personal preferences.

Unsure of exactly what it is you’re looking for?  Head over to our Instagram, @roseySTUDIO, where we often share one-of-a-kind diamonds available for custom commissions.  We proudly offer responsibly sourced modern diamonds and sapphires, antique diamonds, and sustainably grown lab diamonds that are genetically identical to mined diamonds.

Do you take special orders or custom commissions?

Our approach to custom design work is simple: we believe fine jewelry is personal and we’re happy to work with you directly on a one-of-a-kind engagement ring that reflects your unique intrinsic qualities.  Sometimes, you just need a little something more you.

When you’re ready to start designing a custom commission contact us to arrange a private consultation with our engagement ring and fine jewelry concierge.  For clients in the New York City Metro Area we are able to set up in person consultations, and for clients located outside of New York we are able to schedule a phone or video consultation.

Do you work with clients remotely?

Love knows no bounds – and with the advancement of technology, neither do we.  Contact us to arrange a private call or schedule a one-on-one video consultation with one of our engagement ring and fine jewelry concierge to discuss our unique engagement rings, one-of-a-kind curated diamond and sapphire selections, and custom commissions.

How can I find out the status of my order?

All Rosey West fine jewelry and engagement rings are made-to-order exclusively for you.  This means that almost all pieces are expected to take 2-4 weeks minimum to arrive — as we make each piece by hand in our NYC studio.  In certain instances the lead time may be shorter, and if you have a specific ready by date, please contact us directly to discuss your delivery options.

If you would like to find out the status of your order, please email us with your order number and order date.

Can I update/cancel my order after placing?

At your earliest convenience, please contact us to cancel an order or update your shipping information. We handle order updates and cancellations on a case by case basis, depending on how far along your order is in the production process.

Typically if an order update or cancelation request is submitted within 48 hours of purchase we will honor the request to modify or cancel right away – but we get it, life happens and we’re happy to work with you directly on resolving any issues regarding your order.

Shipping

How long does shipping take?

All domestic Rosey West orders are shipped complimentary Fedex ground and require a direct signature upon delivery for your protection.  Shipping may be upgraded to 2-day shipping for an additional $25, or overnight shipping for an additional $50.  We hold traditional business hours Monday-Friday, and all orders will be processed during the week. We do not fulfill orders on weekends or U.S. Federal bank holidays.

Please review our shipping policy before placing an order as all engagement rings and fine jewelry are handmade and have a 3-6 week production lead time. When your piece(s) are complete they will be shipped according to your selected shipping method at checkout.  At the time your jewelry is ready to ship you will receive a confirmation email that contains your order details and FedEx tracking number.

If I pay for expedited shipping, will I get my jewelry in 1-2 days?

The short answer is no.  It is rare for us to carry any stocked pieces as all Rosey West engagement rings and fine jewelry are made-to-order and materials are sourced specifically for you.  Choosing expedited shipping will shorten the time your pieces will spend in transit and are generally selected only if you have a specific in-hand date.  If you have a special request, please contact us directly before placing your order.

Is my ring insured during shipment?

Yes, until your piece(s) are marked as delivered, it is insured at the full retail value.  This is the reason we require signature upon all deliveries to protect you and your new jewelry.

I missed my FedEx Delivery – what can I do?

Don’t panic.  After the first missed delivery, FedEx will automatically schedule a second delivery attempt.  If the scheduled delivery does not work with your current schedule, you can also have the package held at a nearby FedEx facility for in-person pickup.

To have a shipment held at FedEx, please follow one of the below steps:

        • Go to FedEx.com, enter your tracking or door tag number, and select “Hold at FedEx Location.”

        • Call 1.800.GoFedEx 1.800.463.3339. The FedEx Office location must be near the original destination area.

        • For either service, if a telephone number is included, FedEx will try to contact you after the package arrives at their facility. Packages will be held for up to five business days and are released only with proof of identification.  For this service whoever the shipment is addressed to will need to pick up the package with their valid identification that matches the name on the package.

International Orders

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, we serve clients worldwide and ship via DHL Express for all international orders. Please note the client is responsible for all duty/custom fees associated with the purchase when entering a country outside of the United States.

How long does international shipping take?

International Rosey West orders are shipped through DHL Express, and can take anywhere from 2-5 business days to arrive once shipped.  Similar to domestic orders, when your jewelry is ready to ship you will receive a confirmation email that contains your order details and DHL Express tracking number.  If you have any questions during this process we are always available to assist with order status inquires.

Can I return my international order?

Your engagement ring is fully refundable within 14 days of receiving it and all returns must be approved before sending your piece back.  Please contact us and a fine jewelry concierge will contact you to initiate the return process.

  • At this time we do not accept international returns on everyday fine jewelry pieces.

  • Rosey West cannot reimburse duty/custom fees. This needs to be done with your local Customs office/agency.

Returns, Warranties, and Appraisals

What is your domestic return policy?

Your engagement ring or fine jewelry purchase is returnable for a full refund within 14 days of receiving it. For engagement rings, this is only applicable for one ring per customer.

Custom pieces are not eligible for return.  If you have any issue with a custom piece, please contact us directly.

What is the warranty of a Rosey West engagement ring setting?

We stand behind our craftsmanship and guarantee that all engagement rings will be free from manufacturing defects for the life of our products.  If you believe your piece has a defect due to manufacturing, you may return it to us for inspection.  If we determine your piece is damaged due to a manufacturing defect, we will repair or replace your piece as deemed appropriate by our team.

i. If we determine that damage has been caused outside of manufacturing, we will notify you of the damage and any costs related to the repair.  It is up to you if you would like to have your piece repaired with us or with a local jeweler.  This, however, will void the warranty if you choose to work with a jeweler not contracted with Rosey West as we cannot ensure the quality of outside jeweler’s work.

ii. This warranty does not apply to the replacement of a center stone, or any stone larger then .2ct.  Manufacturing defects do not include general wear and tear, scratching, and discoloration due to contact with harsh chemicals, or lost/stolen rings.  Your ring would need to be insured by a third-party insurance agency such as industry leader, Jeweler’s Mutual, to cover damages outside of manufacturer defects.

iii. To be considered eligible for our manufacturer’s warranty, the ring must be in the possession of the original purchaser, as this warranty is non-transferrable.  If you purchased through one of our retailers, please contact them directly and they will initiate this process on your behalf.

Please contact us directly if you have any questions regarding our engagement ring setting warranty before making your purchase.

What is the warranty of a Rosey West diamond?

We are proud to offer a 12 month warranty on all diamond engagement rings.  All diamonds sold by Rosey West are guaranteed to meet or exceed characteristics listed on the product page and or provided Gemological Institute of America certification upon purchasing.

i. Dedicated to the highest degree of sustainable, ethical, and responsible sourcing practices -- all mined diamonds are sourced in compliance with the Kimberley Process, and GIA-certified diamonds are provided upon request to validate all characteristic claims.

ii. Not all diamond jewelry will come with certification, and it is up to the client to request a GIA grading analysis before a piece is put into production.

iii. GIA-certification is an additional fee.  The report cost is based on a diamond’s carat weight. Please see pricing guide below:

a. 0.25ct -0.6 ct -- $65

b. 0.61ct – 1 ct -- $110

c. 1.25ct – 2.99ct -- $175

iv. Diamonds are not eligible for GIA grading analysis once they are mounted and set. If you decide that you would like your diamond graded after production, this will result in additional resetting fees.  Not all engagement rings are eligible for resetting.

v. Please contact us before placing an order to discuss or review our GIA certification process for further clarification.

vi. If for any reason the diamond provided does not live up to the characteristics listed on the product page and or provided certification within 12 months of the purchase date, we will, upon your choice:

a. Accept the return of the diamond and provide you with a refund for the full purchase price or replace the diamond with a diamond that meets or exceeds each of the characteristics warranted.

b. The condition of the diamond will be determined by examination under no greater than 10x magnification, and by standard gemological techniques validated by the Gemological Institute of America. The accuracy of angles and linear measurements will be determined by the following tolerances: ±0.2º and ±0.02 millimeters.

c. Diamonds must be graded as loose stones, and cannot be set in engagement rings and then graded, as settings can be obtrusive. A well-trusted facility such as GIA or AGS must grade the stone, and not a local jeweler in order for it to have relevancy.  Any other grading facilities will not be considered and nullify this Warranty.

Should you make a claim under this Warranty, you allow us to:

a. Inspect the diamond and any gemological evaluation on which you base your claim and try and resolve your claim amicably.

b. To be able to claim this warranty, the diamonds must not be exposed to unreasonable force or harmful conditions. This warranty does not apply to product that has been stored or handled incorrectly, abused, altered, or treated with the wrong cleaning methods. The warranty does not cover normal wear & tear, cuts or scratches; consequential or incidental damages provided or allowed by U.S. state law. The warranties are to the benefit of the original purchaser of the product and are non-transferable.

Can Rosey West provide an engagement ring appraisal?

We are happy to provide you with an engagement ring appraisal once your piece is finished upon request.  Appraisals document the retail value of each ring for insurance purposes.  A formal appraisal will be conducted through independent assessment by a certified appraiser to provide an unbiased appraisal.

Please note, appraisals are only available for engagement rings mounted with GIA-certified diamonds.

Do Rosey West diamonds and sapphires come with a certification report?

Certification is provided upon request.  For made-to-order and custom pieces, GIA certification can be done on all center stones upon request before a piece is put into production.  Depending if a unique stone must be sourced the entire certification process can take up to 2-3 weeks.  Please contact us directly before placing an order.

How do I resize a ring?

We offer resizing of Rosey West engagement rings for $75 and $50 for wedding bands (with the exception of eternity bands) in the US. Reach out to our production team and a jewelry concierge will help you get this process started by scheduling a sizing evaluation.

Can I get my ring resized by a local jeweler instead of sending it back?

Yes, of course.  However, this does void the warranty of your ring with us, as we can't guarantee a local jeweler's craftsmanship.  We recommend you reviewing the Jewelers of America directory to recommended jewelers in your area to ensure their credibility.

Jewelry Care

How should I clean my engagement ring and other fine jewelry?

For a light cleaning, we recommend using a simple combination of mild dish soap and warm water.  Let the ring soak for 20-30 minutes in the blended solution, and then with a soft bristle brush, gently remove built up oil and dirt.  Rinse and repeat as necessary.

  • Stay away from harsh chemicals.  Chlorine bleach or abrasives (such as household cleansers or toothpaste) should never be used when cleaning diamond jewelry. These chemicals can damage some of the metals used to alloy gold for diamond settings and abrasives can scratch gold and other metals.

  • For a deeper clean, take your engagement ring or fine jewelry piece to a local jeweler or contact us to send your piece in for cleaning and maintenance.

  • If you choose to have your piece cleaned and polished with Rosey West, there will be no charge – just pay for shipping and we’ll have your piece cleaned, polished, prongs tightened and sent back to you.

When should I remove my engagement ring or wedding band?

All jewelry should generally be removed before a workout, during sports activities, and any labor intensive activities both indoor and outdoor.  Use your best judgment before engaging in any activities that could cause your jewelry to become loose or fall off.  Otherwise your jewelry can be worn all day during low impact activities.

Will my engagement ring or wedding band scratch?

14k gold, 18k gold and platinum are not scratch-resistant materials.  Over time, every day wear will leave most precious metal susceptible to scratching.   Similar to gemstones, precious metals are ranked on the Mohs hardness scale, which will help to dictate if the metal you select will scratch more easily than another.

Materials and Sustainability Practices

Are Rosey West engagement rings and fine jewelry ethically made and materials responsibly sourced?

At Rosey West we continue to strive toward maintaining a standard of excellence when it comes to sourcing and production – working with highly trained, multi-generational certified gemologists in the industry that support ethical precious stone and precious metal mining along with sustainable cutting practices.

All diamonds and sapphires are sourced in accordance to the Kimberley Process underpinned by the United Nations Mandate in the early 2000s to reduce the flow of conflict diamonds - ‘rough diamonds used to finance wars against governments’ - around the world.

We’re committed to protecting the environment and the people involved in the process of creating Rosey West Fine Jewelry, and by enacting this process we continue to encourage conscious, fair trade, conflict-free, and sustainable sourcing practices throughout the industry.

Where are Rosey West diamonds and sapphires sourced?

All Rosey West diamonds and sapphires are sourced through our vendors in North America located locally in New York City and Canada.

Rough diamonds and sapphires are mined, cut, and polished in accordance with the Kimberley Process in Canada, Thailand, and Africa.  For all certified gemstones, country of origin is provided.

As we continue to move toward a more sustainable business model, we have started to offer cultured diamonds (also known as lab diamonds) from The Diamond Foundry, recycled white brilliant cut diamonds, as well as antique diamonds upon request.

If you have any questions about a specific diamond or sapphire, our jewelry concierge is always available to discuss and walk through the process with you.

Where is Rosey West gold and platinum mined and sourced?

All Rosey West 14k gold, 18k gold, and platinum is sourced through our vendors in New York City – utilizing 100% certified recycled gold and platinum material.

The precious metals used in all Rosey West engagement rings and fine jewelry goes through a refining process that separates them from their accompanying alloys, reducing them down to pure gold and platinum.  The processing is done in the United States, meeting and exceeding all Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), as well as state and local regulatory standards. The pure gold and platinum is then ready to turn into finished jewelry. It has the same properties as newly mined ore, but without the negative environmental consequences.

What are cultured diamonds (also known as lab diamonds)?

They are real diamonds. They have the same optical, chemical, thermal, and physical features of a mined diamond.

Cultured diamonds, as their name suggests, are man-made. They are not, however, cubic zirconia, which is made from zirconium dioxide. Lab created diamonds are grown using carbon atoms, just like diamonds found in nature.

Scientists make cultured diamonds using something called the Chemical Vapour Deposition Process, which grows a cultured diamond from the “seed” of a mined diamond.

All cultured diamonds are sourced via The Diamond Foundry and certified by GCAL and graded on the same grading scale as mined diamonds.

The Diamond Foundry is the first diamond trade business certified Carbon Neutral® by Natural Capital Partners, experts in the delivery of solutions for positive impact on carbon, renewable energy, biodiversity, and water. They achieved net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in accordance with The CarbonNeutral Protocol, the global standard for carbon neutral programs. This involved an independent assessment of the CO2 emissions produced from their operations, followed by the purchase of environmental instruments which support low carbon sustainable development and renewable energy projects around the world.
